What is Ayurveda?

A Sister Science to Yoga

Ayurveda (A-yur-ve-da) is a 5,000 year old system of medicine with origin in India and is defined as 'the science' or 'knowledge of life'. Ayurveda emphasizes illness prevention through proper lifestyle choices, seasonal observances, and body constitution analysis.

Ayurveda is grounded in the metaphysics of the ‘five elements'- earth, water, fire, air and ether--all of which are believed to compose the makings of the Universe.

Ayurveda stresses a balance of the five elements within the body, because according to its unique philosophy, these energies (or doshas) are of utmost importance for the body to maintain homeostasis and wellbeing. When these energies find themselves out of balance, diseases are created. It is believed that by building a healthy metabolic system, attaining good digestion, and proper excretion one attains vitality.

By focusing on preventative measures, such as exercise, yoga, meditation, and bodywork and by addressing the body, mind, and spirit/consciousness in divine unison inevitably health and vitality will ensue and be restored.

Ayurveda is a true, 'holistic' science-  taking a look at the WHOLE person and their personal story rather than just  looking at a specific symptom or disease. Ayurveda restores people to their true nature, aligning them with the rhythm of the universe that is in harmony with our own unique frequency.

10 years of hands on experience.

She began her path as an intuitive healer in Eugene, Oregon at the age of nineteen, where she actively began cultivating her knowledge of the human form through her studies in psychology, yoga, Bhakti, and massage therapy.

After graduating from the Cascade Institute of Body Therapies in 2001, Stacey started her own thriving and healing massage practice, called Lotus Creation Massage, in Southern Oregon where she lived on a 1400 acre farm, living off the land, growing food and herbs in her own vegetable garden, living simply, and in harmony with nature.

Through this natural lifestyle and Stacey’s burning desire to find balance in her own life, she turned to Ayurveda to restore and rejuvenate her spirit. In 2008, Stacey began her studies at Kerala Ayurveda Academy in Seattle, Washington, where she studied with world renowned healer and scholar, Dr. Suhas Kshirshinger, of Ayurvedic Healing, and many other Ayurvedic Physicians, Doctors and experts in their field. She graduated as an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor and upon completion of her studies had logged over 1000 hours of Ayurvedic Training.

In the Winter of 2009, Stacey completed her 200 hour yoga certification with Peter Sterios at the Yandara Yoga Institute in Todo Santos, Mexico.

Combining her love of yoga, massage therapy, and Ayurveda, Stacey opened her first multi-disciplinary wellness practice, Moksha Ayurveda, in the fall of 2009 in Southern Oregon, where she geared her treatments to incorporate Ayurvedic body therapies and Lifestyle education. She infuses each of her treatments with her intuitive wisdom, gentle compassion, and thoughtful inner knowing.

Stacey recently relocated to the LBC from Oregon with her beautiful family and is looking forward to reaching a new audience of people, sharing with them the wonders of Ayurveda, and guiding them in a supported environment to a greater overstanding of optimum health and well-being.
